Capabilities

The Andromeda UAS has been developed with its future purpose in mind. The prototype vehicle set out to test key features such as catapult takeoff and the Autopilot functionality.

Autopilot

The Perseus Autopilot has been developed specifically for the Andromeda UAV. It features an inertial measurement sytem that combines GPS and Inertial sensory information to provide features such as dead reckoning.

The in-house designed circuitry and software provide the highest degree of flexibility and allow the autopilot to integrate seamlessly into our custom ground control and airborne analysis software and hardware. Aside from standard autopilot features such as altitude hold and GPS vector navigation, the Perseus Autopilot also includes an onboard failsafe system , radio link, GPS receiver and more.

Ground support

The ground systems supporting the Andromeda aircraft consist of the ground control software, catapult, antenna station and the Andromeda Transport Vehicle. The catapult is used to propel the aircraft to flight velocity in a short time and in limited space giving us great flexibility for launch and recovery.

The ground control software has been developed in conjunction with the autopilot and communication protocols to facilitate the downloading of telemetry in real-time as well as the upload of waypoint and control data. The antenna station points the directional antennae at the aircraft allowing signals from the aircraft to be detected with higher levels of amplification.

The following videos show the catapult and antenna station in action with the Andromeda Transport Vehiclea and our test aircraft:

Airframe

The Andromeda airframe is currently in the process of construction and final assembly. The design is similar to our flying-wing test models and is based on a monocoque body. The following images show the CAD and construction phases:
